Follow the gemstone I’m working on right now—rough, design choice, and key steps of the process.
Current project: recutting a 15 ct aquamarine
This aquamarine was originally cut to retain weight rather than beauty. It shows a large “window”, an overly deep pavilion that makes it difficult to set in jewelry, and a finish with poor symmetry and polish.
After carefully studying the stone—and aiming to preserve as much size as possible—I chose the “Pseudo-Radiant 1.25”design by Aria Akhavan. This cut will reduce the pavilion height while keeping much of the stone’s length and width.
The result will be a better-balanced gemstone with greater brilliance, no windowing, and a pavilion angle properly matched to beryl. As always, the final stone will feature precise symmetry and high-quality polish.
